PACKAGE: Bird Watching At Ba’Kelalan Highlands 

DURATION: 4 Days & 3 Nights

 

 

DESTINATION: Ba'Kelalan is located in Lawas District; it is a Lun Bawang tribe village located in the northeast highlands of Sarawak. Bird watchers and photographers from around the world come here to see the elusive bird called the Dulit Frogmouth (Batrachostomus harterti). Other species commonly seen here include Black and Crimson Oriole, Hose's Broadbill, Bornean Bulbul, Bornean Barbet, Whitehead's Spiderhunter, Mountain Serpent Eagle and some mammals such as Tufted Ground Squirrel and Bornean Black-Banded Squirrels.

 

 

ITINERARY: 

DAY 01 

• Depart from Kota Kinabalu by 9am. Travel for 3 hours to reach Lawas. Have late lunch. Travel for 2 hours on dirt and gravel road to reach Merarap Hot Spring (MHS). Birding within the vicinity of MHS (or soak in hot spring pool). Dinner – local dishes. Overnight at MHS.

 

DAY 02 

• Wake up call at 5am. Early morning birding within the vicinity of MHS. After breakfast, travel for 4 hours on dirt and gravel road to reach Ba’Kelalan. Check into a Homestay. Have late lunch. Late afternoon birding in search of Dulit Frogmouth. Dinner – local dishes. Overnight at Homestay.

 

DAY 03

• Wake up call at 4am. Early morning, birding within the vicinity of Ba’Kelalan. After breakfast and lunch –free & easy. Late afternoon – birding. Overnight at Homestay.

 

DAY 04

• Wake up call at 4am. Early morning, birding within the vicinity of Ba’Kelalan. After breakfast, travel for 6 hours on dirt and gravel road to reach Lawas. Have late lunch. Travel for another 3 hours to reach Kota Kinabalu.

 

 

TOUR INCLUDES:

1 night at Merarap Hot Spring Lodge.

2 nights at Ba’Kelalan Homestay.
