DESCRIPTION

Sabah, located on the northern part of Borneo (the third largest island in the world) has amazingly diverse rainforest that is home to over 680 species of birds, with approximately 10% of them are endemic to Sabah. Some of the popular birding destinations in Sabah are, namely:

The mountain forests surrounding Mount Kinabalu, Mount Trusmadi and Crocker Range  contain some endemic to the highlands of Borneo such as Bulwer's Pheasant, Kinabalu Serpent Eagle, Red-breasted and Crimson-headed Partridges, Bare-headed, Sunda and Chestnut-hooded Laughing thrushes, Mountain Wren-Babbler, Bornean Stubtail, Mountain Black-eye, Pale-faced Bulbul, Bornean Swiftlet, Bornean Green Magpie, Bornean Whistler, Bornean Whistling-thrush, Bornean Forktail, Fruit hunter, the superb Whitehead's trio (Trogon, Broadbill, and Spiderhunter) and the elusive Everett's Thrush.

Some lowland forests such as Deramakot, Sepilok and Telupid, offer some exotic bird species such as Bornean Peacock Pheasant, Bornean Bristlehead and Black-crowned Pitta and many species of kingfishers, broadbills, bee-eaters , woodpeckers, Barbets and Hornbills.

At the Kinabatangan Floodplain, it is common to find wildlife such as the illusive Proboscis Monkey, rare Storm's Stork, eight species of hornbill and the less-known Bornean Ground Cuckoo.
